Utah State Fair, Routine, and Sunsets

Monday:  September 10, 2012

Today was in fact a State Fair day.  First, we are still getting into our routine on the road.  We are trying to make it much like we had it in a Sticks 'n Bricks environment.  Get up at 7am have coffee, read blogs, update our blog, Facebook, news, and e-mail.  We then try to exercise for an hour (alternate a walk/bike or me resistance training) 5 times a week.  This exercise can be exchanged for other stuff like a walking tours or just washing the truck.  Then breakfast of either eggs or cereal.

So, today we did our usual routine and then headed out to the Utah State Fair.  I have only been to the Indiana and New Jersey State fairs so I didn’t quite know what to expect.  The Utah state fair is smaller than both the Indiana and the New Jersey fairs.  The fair did have the same stuff, exhibitions of local talents and agriculture.  Also, they had some free shows and, the best part, fair food!   It’s been some time since I have been to a fair so it was exciting to go to this fair in Utah.  Patty is not sure she has ever been to a state fair.

After 5 hours we had enough fair to hold us for a while.  We also ate enough fair food that we don’t desire to repeat that for a while either.  I love corn dogs so I had to have one as soon as we arrived. Patty had Mac and cheese with bacon.  We both had some cinnamon roasted almonds for a walking around snack.  Then, before we left the fair, we split a funnel cake.  We had not seen funnel cake done this way before.  They put various toppings on the cake.  So we had the vendor make a 50/50 with strawberries for Patty and Bavarian cream for me, all topped with whipped cream.  It’s all good J

So far, Jersey corn is best.

We and a Shock Top Draft.

Free comedian.  He was not bad!

High dive exhibition.

The last thing about the fair was the spectacular sunset!  The sun set behind the fair over the Great Salt Lake with varied layers of clouds.  Also, the sun lit up the mountains on the east side.

Sunset lighting up the mountains.

Sunset over the Great Salt lake to the west.

Now back home to watch some TV.  However, we spent most of the rest of the evening discussing our travels after Oregon!  More on that later.

This is definitely an engaging lifestyle!

Stay tuned!
